Not Good Enough

Italy 2009 721

It is so easy to feel not good enough,

whether it is my own comparison to other people’s work, lives, or possesions

or because someone has made a comment that I need to excercise or

they tell me how I could be happy if I worked a 9 to 5 job that I hate.

It is a spirit and a hope pushing those feelings away

to make room for the new that I want to feel,

that brand new discovery of something I like.

I reach out to those who feel inclined to insult me to help me.

I try to just go to them to support them in their endeavors.

It is a bit awkward when I do yoga everyday and walk, so I guess

they are looking for someone a bit more perfect than me.

I feel like they think to themselves, why am I not getting what I want from her.

A few might think about what might insults a woman and there is the answer.

They never think maybe there are things I could insult them,

but I don’t, because it might make them feel not good enough.

My life is a momentary flash on this small earth in this great galaxy.

I want to be happy and healthy and a little fat is not what anyone

will remember in the end.

You may be traveling to get somewhere and have to forgo some things

in order to reach your destination for your next great adventure.

Some people will not know how to help you for sure and in the process

forget their heart. Do not ever let anyone’s momentary dementia deter you

from the love you want to be.

Following the Words

Swirling in the rhythm of life, my heart,

finding the words that match

the spirit inside that drives the day.

My heart swirls and finds peace for

a length of time the length of a twig,

before it is looking for more.

Why does it think it needs more,

there is always more.

Power is so uninteresting to my heart,

only love, only nature, only harmony

with the one I love.

My heart knows that peace does not last forever,

but mine is a patient heart and it waits for that amazing

moment when the peace happens all over again.

A Strange Link

For the Love of Travel/Travel for Love Poetry/Curtail Sonnet

104_0022

Curtail sonnet is a ten line sonnet, give or take and is a basic shortened version of the regular sonnet which is usually fourteen lines. Originally from Italy and translated as “little song” , you can easily see the simple few lines as the transfer of the feeling of inspired love by a known or new found muse.

I finally realize love is an emotion led by many things and in different ways by everyone. It took me a while to realize how easy it is to make a conscious effort to call upon the love that I have in my heart and to reveal and be proud of feeling love and being loved. Travel is one thing that opens my love heart and inspires lots of possibilities and wonderful ideas. I am going to try my hand at a curtail sonnet about travel and hopefully a little love.

Your voice stops for a moment,

and you ask me how I am.

Your love repairs what’s broken

and humbles me to a lamb.

I cuddle to you dragon

no longer with fear,

our spirits vaporize

love, peace, and strength our prize.

Fur and bees and everything zen

drive our fantasies and join our traveling lives.

So there is a little ten line sonnet, a curtail sonnet. It if course ca be worked on a little more and edited, but it is a start. Try your hand at a curtail sonnet and read it aloud. Rhyme and rhythm play heavily into sonnets, so you can work on that to. The end rhyme can have a  pattern but they can also be free, whatever you would like, and whatever fits in with what you are trying to say.

The Temperature of Poetry

100_0653

The Temperature of Poetry can be as cold as the water that flows beneath an ice fishing hole and or as warm as standing beside an erupting volcano on a tropical island. The temperature in poetry can be as comfortable as sitting on the deck of a blue ridge mountain cabin overlooking the green and blue of a mountainous view. You can bring temperature to your poems and make your readers want to go get a sweater or turn on the air conditioner. Find the temperature of your poetry theme and add it to enrich your readers experience.

Nudging Mercury

I don’t want you to drastically change my temperature.

I like my temperature.

Where I am right now,

I have to spend so much

time thinking

about the weather.

Will it be cold?

Will it be hot?

So much change

takes away from what I have to get done

the clothes, the sleep, the mood,

it all gets affected.

When it’s cool

like in the seventies

it’s the best.

Where can I go that it stays

in the seventies

all year long?

With you I want our

temperature to just be tepid.

I don’t need the extreme heat.

I already had it,

I don’t want to sweat so hard.

I just want to live free with you

in our tepid temperature

where your life feels good

and my life feels good

and we feel tepid together

and just good!

Despair And Exaltation

Italy 2009 151

The poetry of despair finds emotions in corners

of a numb mind who have been playing

hide and seek.

Some might think that despair is evil and as useful as

the color of someones hair.

Fiery exaltation is dangerous

because there is nowhere to go but down.

Despair and exaltation to a creative soul

are vice grips to all the emotions

in between and simply

abstracts that a few tips of the fingers

brush across for inspiration.

Anaphora, Anaphora, Anaphora, and Anaphora

Anaphora, what a great word to begin with four syllables and a sound that rolls off the voice box with zest and adventure.

So what does it mean, well as simple as repeating the same word in the beginning of each line in a poem. It reminds me of hearing a certain word for the first time and just not getting enough of it or a word resonating a feeling and you can just keep coming up with idea after idea that explains the word. So here is an example,

Music, opens the lock.

Music, turns the body.

Music, heals the pain.

Music, is a healthy drain.

Music surrounds the house with heart.

Music holds us from falling apart.

Music teaches us why we feel,

and Music can make everything oh so touchingly real.

So there is a quick example of Anaphora. You can literally pick any word and practice and then when you write the more difficult poems use Anaphora at your will to emphasis a point, or word, or feeling in your poem.
